Gas and electric golf carts have the same goal: moving people or luggage from one spot to another. You should be careful to choose according to your expectations, usage, and budget. Let’s explore the pros and cons of gas and electric golf carts.

Electric golf cart

An electric golf cart operates on a battery, making it environmentally friendly. Also, it makes electric golf carts lightweight and improves their performance.

These carts run on batteries, whether a lead-acid battery or a lithium-ion battery. Motors are powered by batteries, which assist in the cart’s movement.

These carts need little maintenance and operate with minimal noise. They are great for gated communities, hotels, resorts, and places for seniors.

Gas golf cart

Gas golf carts have been around for a long time, and their usage was common in golf courses. One big benefit of gas golf carts is their combustion engines.

These engines provide more torque, which makes them effective for longer trips. These carts have high maintenance costs, fuel expenses, and are not environmentally friendly.

These features make them ideal for hilly areas, factories and farms. Gas carts need regular changes, such as oil and filter replacements, to operate smoothly.

However, with technology advancement, electric golf carts are both effective and efficient on hilly terrain.

A Republic motor’s electric golf cart running in Kedarnath, Uttarakhand, India.

No cart runs at a speed of 100 km. So if you are thinking of speed, a better choice would be an electric golf cart.

Which is the better option?

Let’s understand this with the help of a table:

Feature	Gas Golf Cart	Electric Golf Cart
Power Source	Combustion engine	Electric motor (Lead-acid or Lithium battery)
Maintenance	Higher (oil, filters, engine parts)	Low (battery & charger care)
Noise	Noticeable engine noise	Almost silent
Operating Cost	High (fuel prices)	Very low
Eco-friendly	No	Yes, zero emissions
Torque & Power	Higher torque for steep areas	Good torque (especially in lithium carts)
Smell/Exhaust	Fuel smell & emissions	No fumes
Best For	Farms, factories, large estates	Resorts, gated communities, hospitality, golf courses

By comparing gas and electric golf carts, a final decision depends upon your needs. “How you will use your golf cart?”.

For instance, If you’re worried about the environment, noise, and keeping costs low, an electric golf cart is a smart choice. If you need your golf cart to run long distances, a gas cart is better.
